Guidelines for the Retail Sector on Price Promotions
Closing Down / Relocation Sales
Making a representation that a trader is about to cease trading or move premises if in fact this is not the case, is an unfair commercial practice prohibited by the Consumer Protection Act 2007.
If a trader is advertising a closing down sale, the date when the business is due to shut down should be indicated.
In cases where the trader is planning to move to new premises and wishes to sell off the existing stock before making the move, this should be made clear in the sale promotion advertising.
